Interview time…
What role do you have at Creatio?
There are three main areas to my role. I oversee all our external certifications (ISO 22301, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus) using our creatiogreen governance module to evidence our compliance. I manage client invoicing and internal staff Human Resources.
Favourite part of your job?
I enjoy the variety of work that I get involved in, every day is different, and working from home is a great benefit which my velcro doggie Meme loves!
Tell us more about your background…
My Dad inspired me to become an engineer and at 16yrs old I started a mechanical engineering apprenticeship (through the Awarding Organisation EAL). The first 3 weeks I had to wear oversized overalls and looked like a bag of spuds until my special sized overalls arrived. I was the first female engineer at the company and as such attended trade shows with SEMTA and school career days to promote females in engineering.
I later joined a training provider as a trainer, assessor and internal verifier. Those were my most invigorating years teaching engineering apprentices technical and personal skills. Taking apprentices twice a year on outward bound courses, like jumping into Ullswater Lake (Cumbria) early on a cold January morning, certainly gets you ready for the day. I also enjoyed attending schools’ career events to promote engineering with my mini portable CNC lathe. During this time, I also featured in a video with the UK Education Department to promote non-stereotypical careers which was shown at schools all over the UK.
After, I joined EAL as an External Verifier (EV) being their youngest and first female engineering EV in the team, and then I ended up being a Malpractice Investigator which I loved! I referred to myself as Miss Marple.
Finally, I joined Creatio where I have been working for the last 8 years.
What energises you at work?
I love getting involved with new company-wide Governance projects such as gaining new international certifications, our latest one being Cyber Essential Plus. I am given the freedom to update/develop new Governance logs to help demonstrate compliance and carry out company-wide training with staff on the new requirements.
Interests outside of work?
I love classic vehicles, I have a VW 1965 Campervan (named Fernando, yes after the ABBA Song) and 1972 Camper Trailer (named Lilybum), so I enjoy tinkering in my garage and taking road trips. I really enjoy learning new crafts from jewellery making to pottery. I’m currently learning to snorkel (which is harder than you think), I love upcycling furniture and waste, making beautiful objects that can be used again. I will pretty much have a go at fixing anything, even burst water pipes in the garden. And of course, I enjoy having wonderful walks on the beach and in the forests with my doggie.
Tell us something interesting…
When I moved to France 10 years ago, I travelled with my three classic vehicles (packed to the brim). I convinced my brother and sister to help with the driving. Along for the Road trip, were also my two cats and two dogs - it was a long five-day trip, there was a lot of interest in the French villages where we stopped for breaks, with the vehicles and the furry girls on their leashes gaining a lot of attention. It was a fun adventure with lots of giggles, mishaps and breakdowns along the way, but we survived!
As you know, Alan (Founder & Managing Director) loves Star Wars but how do you feel about the franchise?
I have watched all the movies but unfortunately I’m still not sure which comes first lol. Star Wars fans will hate me saying this, but I prefer STAR TREK.
And Spurs?…Alan and therefore Creatio are supporters…are you a fan?
Simple answer ‘NOPE’ although I have been dragged to a few games by Alan over the years.
Lastly, your current go-to podcasts / movies / TV shows / books / albums etc?
I like to read hardback books, I still love the smell and feel of them. My favourite authors are Dean Koontz and Lee Childs, so when I visit England, I usually get the latest releases. It’s the variety of the plots that I enjoy, from thrillers to SCI-FI.
